[origin: EP1215372A2] The exhaust gas system (1) is assigned at least one value (S1...Sn;S1'...Sn;S1''...Sn'') corresponding to the exact specified flow resistance of the through flowing exhaust gas. So that the values corresponding to the specified flow resistances are recorded in at least one plane (E,E',E'') of the engine performance graph (k) in the control unit (50), and that at each operating point of the engine graph of a value corresponding to one of the assigned resistance, at least at one plane, serves as a regulating or control variable of the adjusting element (4).
