Internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder block, a cylinder head, and a control housing cover (20). The control housing cover and the cylinder block form a control housing (74), a pump inlet chamber (58), and a pump outlet chamber (64) which are separate from each other. The pump inlet chamber surrounds the pump outlet chamber so that the pump outlet chamber is separated from the control housing. Preferred Features: The control housing cover has a coolant inlet (54) preferably molded within the control housing cover, a thermostat housing, and a chamber (68) to which hot coolant from the cylinder head is fed. A seal (70) is provided between the cylinder head and the control housing lid.

Bekannte Verbrennungsmotoren weisen häufig einen Steuergehäusedeckel auf, der ein Steuergehäuse abdeckt und in welchem Pumpenkammern sowie Anschlüsse eines Kühlmittelsystems vorgesehen sind. Durch Undichtigkeiten in dem Steuergehäusedeckel kann es zu Verunreinigungen von Schmiermitteln in dem Steuergehäuse sowie zu Beeinträchtigungen der Funktion von dort angeordneten Bauteilen oder Baugruppen kommen. Es wird ein Verbrennungsmotor (10) mit einem Steuergehäusedeckel (20) vorgeschlagen, bei dem eine Pumpeneinlasskammer (58) eine Pumpenauslasskammer (64) derart umschließt, dass sie die Pumpenauslasskammer (64) von dem Steuergehäuse trennt. <IMAGE>
