[origin: EP1216774A1] A hollow cylindrical tool or workpiece can be clamped on the clamping mandrel (1) which has round its circumference at least a groove (5) in which an elastic ring (4) is fitted. The ring has inclined slits so that as the mandrel rotates the segments formed by the slits through centrifugal force press outwards against the axial inner wall of the hollow cylindrical tool and provide it with a secure hold.
