[origin: WO0128907A2] The invention relates to a method for operating a machine, especially a winder, that winds threads. A thread is alternately guided to-and-fro between two change-over points within a traversing stroke and crosswise in relation to the drawing-off direction of the thread by means of a thread guide of a traversing device for being laid onto a rotating bobbin. The invention also relates to devices for carrying out the methods. According to the invention, an end point of the change-over of the thread guide is fixed at a change-over point. The traversing stroke is corrected, preferably shortened or prolonged, during a following stroke and according to the position of the end point. In an alternative embodiment, the actuation of the thread guide or the traversing device is controlled according to a predetermined winding ratio and a bobbin speed in such a way that the winding ratio is maintained when the bobbin speed is changed or not.
