[origin: EP1223132A2] Optoelectronic device comprises an emitter for emitting light beams, a receiver for receiving light beams, and an evaluation unit for evaluating output signals. The output signals are evaluated with threshold values to discriminate from illuminated receiving elements (10) with output signals and non-illuminated receiving elements with output signals. The object has an edge of an arc (3) onto which a part of a light beam (6) is directed. A number of subsequently illuminated receiving elements is obtained by the receiving light beam reflected back from the edge of the arc. The number of illuminated receiving elements is a measure of the thickness of the arc.
