Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0131608A1] The invention relates to a device for controlling at least one set of traffic lights at a crossroads, comprising a sensor device which detects vehicles in the waiting area in front of the traffic lights and optionally, in the crossroads area and measures their location and speed. The sensor device has a transmitter, which emits rotating laser pulses and which produces at least one beam fan that scans a traffic lane in the waiting area in a central region, from above and parallel to the direction of travel; and a receiver (35), with which the points of incidence of the laser pulses can be detected. The sensor device (19) has an evaluation device which determines the profile of the points of incidence of the beam fan (20, 21) based on the data determined by the receiver (35), allocates objects to individual groups of points of incidence and optionally, follows the movement of the objects detected.
