[origin: WO0131873A2] In MTP protocols of a level 3 of a signaling system (7), MTP users are identified by means of a bit length field 4, i.e. service indicator (SI). Due to the fact that in several novel MTP users have been defined in recent years, it is important that SI value reserves are increased. The invention solves the problem in such a way that said solution is compatible with the protocol format used to date.
