[origin: GB2355933A] There is disclosed a catheter device of the kind referred to comprising a needle (11) extending from a support means, a catheter (12) extending from a catheter hub (13), means (14) for pushing the hub over the needle to advance the catheter forwardly from the needle and slidable along guide means (16) having stop means (19) at its forward end, the means for pushing the hub having a shield (15) at its forward end in which the needle tip locates when the pushing means is arrested by said stop means. Preferably the guide means (16) includes a ramped tooth or teeth to prevent retraction of the hub pushing means. In an alternative embodiment (Figs 4-6; not shown), the guide means (16) comprises a pair of upwardly inclined fingers which tilt shield (15) at the end of its forward stroke so that the needle tip locates behind a lip in the shield.
