[origin: DE19938016A1] The invention relates to a method for biologically purifying waste water during which the waste water to be purified is fed to an aeration tank in which water-quality constituents of a biomass, especially bacteria, are made to respire in the sludge-waste water mixture without the presence of air or oxygen. Afterwards, the waste water mixture and excess sludge are fed to a nitrification tank (4) and are subsequently fed to a settling tank (8). In the settling tank, the biomass is separated from the water by sedimentation and is returned to the denitrification tank. The inventive method is characterized in that the proportion of the biomass in the denitrification tank is increased by diagonally arranged lamellae (5, 6), which are placed in the denitrification tank (2) before draining the nitrification tank (4), and in that a dry substance content ranging from 4 to 12 g/l is set in the denitrification tank.
