[origin: WO0215496A1] A system, method and article of manufacture are provided for sending a datagram (2100) through a switch fabric (2000). From a received datagram (2102), a destination vector (2104) is extracted. The destination vector (2104) indicates one or more destinations (i.e., unicast or multicast) of the datagram (2102). A port bitmap (2106) is generated for the datagram (2102) based on the destination vector (2104). The datagram (2108) is subsequently transmitted toward the destination utilizing the port bitmap (2106).
