The folding step ladder (1) has a leg (2) with the ladder steps and a support leg (3). The steps (4,5) pivot on the ladder leg at one end, and have pivot mountings at the trailing ends for a linkage (6) between them, to form a parallelogram between the two legs when the ladder is opened out. The linkage member has two guide slits (12,14).
