[origin: JP2002228388A] PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger and a pipe block capable of being produced with prescribed fluid sealing and withstand pressure characteristics at a relatively low cost. SOLUTION: The heat exchanger and pipe block include at least two headers (6, 7) having C-shaped cross sections respectively having continuous and longitudinal grooves (10, 11) and flat pipes (2a, 2b) inserted into the longitudinal grooves of the headers. An end forming plate element (12) is provided. The end forming plate element has a plurality of C-shaped holes which are fitted to the end faces of at least two headers. Each of the headers is inserted into each hole so as to have the fluid sealing characteristics. The heat exchanger and pipe block can be used for, for instance, an evaporator of a carbon dioxide air conditioner for a motor vehicle.
