Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0136082A1] The invention relates to a spouting fluidized bed apparatus (10) that includes a hollow body defining an internal space (11) including a downwardly tapering lower section (12), defining a longitudinal axis and a truncated V-shaped profile in cross-section along the length thereof. The downwardly tapering lower section (12) of the internal space (11) terminates in an elongate slot-like gas inlet opening (14), defined at the operative lower end of the hollow body, and extends upwardly via an upper section (16) that leads to a gas outlet defined by the hollow body near the operative upper end thereof. A particulate product inlet is provided through which particulate product can be fed into the hollow body. The lower section (12) of the hollow body is surrounded by a plenum chamber (26) that defines a gas inlet for gas to enter the chamber and hence the hollow body via the gas inlet opening (30). An elongate tray formation (18) is provided operatively beneath the gas inlet opening (30) for controlling the flow profile of gas through the inlet opening defined by the hollow body and, thereby, the formation of a spouting fluidized bed of particles within the hollow body, in use of the apparatus.
