[origin: WO0140730A1] The invention relates to a heat exchanger that is provided with an axis and at least one body (5) which encompasses the axis and is ring-shaped in the cross-section thereof. Said body comprises involute sheet metal elements (23, 27) that are arranged around said axis in a successive manner. Edge strips (24, 25, 28, 29) that are welded to the sheet metal elements are alternately arranged between said sheet metal elements in the proximity to the involute side edges (23c, 23d, 27c, 27d) thereof or the inner and outer edges (23a, 23b, 27a, 27b) thereof. The sheet metal elements alternately define through-passages (33, 34) for a first and a second fluid (15, 16). Each through-passage (33, 34) contains an intermediate layer (31, 32) that consists of a wire hosiery. The edge strips (24, 25, 28, 29) and the wire hosiery keep the successive sheet metal elements (23, 27) stable and permanently at a distance from each other and are only provided with little heat conduction in the direction of flow.
