Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1234778A1] A plastics closure (1) for a container of the type having an opening sealed by a thin severable membrane. Rotation of the closure with respect to the container is used to effect separation of a panel of the membrane from the remainder of the container. The closure end plate (20) is provided with opening means (30) which include piercing means (65) to pierce through the membrane, and cutting means (70) to cut through the membrane as the closure is rotated. In addition the opening means have retaining means (75) which lift and retain the panel as it is separated. The end plate (20) is movable from a stable raised position to a stable lowered position with respect to the membrane to effect piercing. <IMAGE> <IMAGE>
