[origin: WO0141704A2] The instant invention provides a method for raising serum HDL cholesterol levels comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of an LXR ligand to a patient in need of such treatment. It further provides a method for using an LXR ligand to stimulate expression of the ABC1 gene. LXR ligands can be used for preventing and treating atherosclerosis and related conditions.
