[origin: WO0140187A2] Neuroprotective agents are disclosed having structure (I) wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are as defined herein. Such compounds have utility in the treatment of conditions which benefit from administration of neuroprotective agents generally, including treatment of central and peripheral nervous condition as well as for promoting nerve cell differentiation. Methods of treating such conditions are also disclosed, as are pharmaceutical compositions containing one or more of the compounds of this invention.

[origin: WO0140187A2] Neuroprotective agents are disclosed having structure: (I) and stereoisomers and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R1 is alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, arylalkyl, substituted arylalkyl, heterocycle, substituted heterocycle, heterocyclealkyl or substituted heterocyclealkyl; R2 is -OR2a or -NR2bR2c; R3 is hydrogen, keto, -C(=O)OR3a or -C(=O)NR3bR3c; R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, -C(=O)R4a, -C(=O)OR4b, -C(=O)NR4cR4d, -OC(=O)NR4cR4d or -SO2R4c or wherein R3 and R4 taken together form a heterocyclic ring or substituted heterocyclic ring; and R5 is hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl. Such compounds have utility in the treatment of conditions which benefit from administration of neuroprotective agents generally, including treatment of central and peripheral nervous condition as well as promoting nerve cell differentiation. Methods of treating such conditions are also disclosed, as are pharmaceutical compositions containing one or more of the compounds of this invention.
