The method involves first checking whether an armature is essentially in its open position before deactivating the individual gas replacement valves, carrying out a measure for smooth application of the armature to the valve if the result of the check is positive and preventing deactivation while the result of the check is negative.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren beim Abstellen einer Brennkraftmaschine mit elektromagnetisch betätigten Gaswechselventilen. Um Abnützungs- und Emissionsnachteile zu vermeiden wird vorgeschlagen, dass beim Abstellen der Brennkraftmaschine vor dem Außerbetriebsetzen der einzelnen Gaswechselventile geprüft wird, ob sich ein Anker im wesentlichen in seiner Offenstellung befindet und bei positivem Ergebnis die auch im normalen Betrieb durchgeführte Maßnahme zum sanften Aufsetzen des Ankers auf das Gaswechselventil solange durchgeführt wird, bis ein negatives Prüfungsergebnis vorliegt. <IMAGE>
