[origin: WO0111090A2] The present invention provides a novel method for identifying virus-binding polypeptides (putative viral receptors) and the nucleotide sequences encoding them. The method uses a cDNA expression library made from the total mRNA of an animal virus vector and a freshly purified preparation of a plant-infecting virus. Also disclosed are polypeptides identified from the western flower thrips which bind to the tomato spotted wilt virus.
