Method in which a sorted material container (8) is arranged by a target position (4) on a sorting path (2) so that it can be filled with material to be transported away. An empty container, which is filled and then pulled out, is placed in a holder and inserted under a target position using a guide. Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zur Befüllung und zum automatischen Abtransport von Sortiergutaufnahmebehältern (8), die entlang einer Sortierstrecke (2) an einzelnen gleichartigen Zielstellen (4) mit Sortiergut befüllt und nach deren Befüllung über eine Transporteinrichtung (18) von den Zielstellen automatisch abtransportiert werden. Dabei wird ein voller Sortiergutaufnahmebehälter (8) nach Auslösung eines Abtransportbefehles durch eine Abtransporteinrichtung, die sich unterhalb einer Zielstelle (4) befindet, abgesenkt und auf die Transporteinrichtung (18) gesetzt, falls sich dort nicht bereits ein Sortiergutaufnahmebehälter befindet. Von der Transporteinrichtung (18) wird dann der Sortiergutaufnahmebehälter (8) von den Zielstellen (4) weg befördet. <IMAGE>
