[origin: WO0148273A1] The invention relates to a bath for electrochemically depositing highly lustrous white rhodium layers and to a whitening agent for the same. Compounds of formula IR - SOm-H (I), wherein m is a number 3 or 4 and R is a straight-chained or branched or cyclic alkyl group with up to 20 C-atoms are used as whiteners, with the result that the brightness or degree of whiteness of the deposited coatings is significantly increased. The thickness of layer that can be deposited without a bloom is also significantly increased.
