Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2357603A] An automated system and method that uses models of business activity to automate business monitoring and analysis tasks. The system builds profiles, 230, of historical business transactions and performs comparative analysis, 261, 262, between these profiles and new, unseen data. In this way, the system can classify and make judgements about new, unseen, transactions and alert operators to unusual transactional patterns. Operators may also be alerted when the system recognizes prescribed patterns of activity. The system provides a means to update the historical activity profiles and maintain them such that they may be used to provide supporting evidence in order for operators to make decisions about alerts generated by the system and to perform other forms of analysis on the transactional data. Alerts generated by the system are ranked according to their relative importance and may be assigned for processing by a specific operator, or group of operators. The system may be used e.g. to detect fraud, or for risk analysis, regulatory compliance checking, marketing or product-wage analysis.
