[origin: EP1245311A1] An apparatus for the production of a platelike metal material includes a cooling unit (21) for cooling a molten metal (M1) to form a metal slurry (M2) containing a solid phase, a pair of coarse rollers (37D, 37U) for cooling the metal slurry and, at the same time, rolling it to thereby give rise to a continuous, solidified, platelike metal material (M3), and a cutting mechanism (39) for cutting the continuous, solidified platelike metal material into platelike metal materials (M4) of a stated length. Thus, platelike metal materials containing numerous uniform spherical crystals are obtained. <IMAGE>
