[origin: WO0144069A1] A readily manually removable closure (10) for an open topped container (11) is constructed of a metal lid (18) and a platic ring (32) which are effectively permanently joined together via the engagement of a peripheral channel formation (26) of the lid (18) within a channel formed in the plastic ring (32). The plastic ring (32) includes an inwardly directed bead (34) which engages under a radially outward formation, such as a curl (16), at the rim (14) of container (11) to sealingly retain the channel formation (26) of the metal lid component (18) on rim (14). The plastic ring component (32) includes a depending skirt (42) which is manually manipulable to cause the bead (34) to disengage the curl (16) to facilitate manual removal of the closure.
