Abstract (en)

A capacitor is formed by a conductive outer housing (9) on an insulating base (14) with a semiconductor layer (3) and an ionizable element (11) such as air, while the capacitor is located on top of a structure on an electric mast (7c) forming an armature (7). The capacitor increases the load in the cloud (5) until a path is formed for lightning strikes through the capacitor to earth.
