[origin: WO0153707A1] The invention relates to a connecting element in the form of a screw, nut, or disc for a screw connection, comprising on its bearing surface at least one projecting section (11) and at least one surface (17) extending radially beyond said projecting section. The height and cross-section of the projecting section are dimensioned in such a way that said section is elastically or plastically deformed to such an extent during the tightening of the screw connection that once a predetermined pre-tensioning force has been reached, the radially extending surface (17) comes to rest against the opposing surface. In the conventional practice of tightening a screw connection to a predetermined tightening torque, the invention enables the tolerance range of the pre-tensioning force corresponding to the tightening torque to be reduced. The modification to the differential ratio torque angle of rotation which occurs when the projecting element has deformed to a sufficient extent and the radially extending surface makes contact, can also be used as the criterion for ending the tightening operation.
