Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1249287A1] Process for initiating a continuous casting machine comprises closing the lower section of the mold using molded parts (8), a sealing plate (10) and a support by a cold strand head (3); casting around the molded parts and the sealing plate forming a connection between a hot strand (9) and the cold strand head; continuously conveying the hot strand in the casting direction (X) using a strand guide; drawing the cold strand chain (1) upward after reaching the hot strand/cold strand head connecting point at the end of the strand guide; and detaching the cold strand chain from the hot strand by pivoting a hinging element (6) on the cold strand head. An Independent claim is also included for a device for initiating a continuous casting machine. Preferred Features: The cold strand head is pivoted about a rotating point (2) to the conveying direction (Y) to connect the cold strand chain with the hot strand during casting and to convey the hot strand and separate the hot strand from the cold strand.
