One or more cylinders are mounted for horizontal lateral motion, relative to the supports and parallel to the axis of cylinder rotation. Note -The carding cylinders referred to here, have inclined teeth. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding method of treating a non-woven cloth. Preferred features: The cylinder is associated with equipment causing lateral reciprocation along its axis. There is also at least one combing and/or carding cylinder without lateral motion, another with lateral motion and/or a fixed cylinder. The cylinder with lateral displacement, follows one without. At least two carding cylinders with lateral displacement follow the comb in series and are separated by one or more fixed cylinders. Carding cylinder length is increased beyond that of the preceding cylinder, by the maximum amplitude of reciprocation.
