Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1251532A2] The switch device has a contact point with a stationary and a moveable contact member. The device has an arc extinguishing chamber arrangement with parallel extinguishing or quenching plates and two arc conducting rails which guide arcs created on switching to the plates. The extinguishing arrangement is formed of two adjacent packets of plates (23,24). First and second additional guide rails (25,26) are provided. One leads to the first plate packet. The other leads to the second. The additional rails are connected together near the contact point so that on switching off, the arc is split into two partial arcs one of which is fed to the first packet and the other to the second.
