Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0158615A1] The invention relates to a component made from high-rigidity sheet, in particular, a structural component (1), comprising a locally limited reinforcement region, with a shaped region (3), which substantially increases the local rigidity of the component when compared with conventional components. The rigidity enhancing region comprises a periodic grid of nested concave and convex dimples (7, 8), stamped in a locally limited region of the sheet by means of a deep draw method. The regular periodic grid structure of the reinforcing pattern permits a computer simulation of the required rigidity and hence a systematic optimisation of the reinforcing region for each component. The dimple depth (9, 10) can be varied by region within the reinforcing structure, whereby, within said reinforcing regions, desired local variations in component rigidity can be achieved.
