[origin: EP1254990A2] Process for protecting liquid cycles or pipes conveying liquid, especially of heating systems or service water pipes, against frost damage comprises releasing liquid at least partly out of the liquid cycle or pipe through an opening in the liquid cycle or pipe when the temperature of the liquid drops below a pre-determined temperature above the freezing point of the liquid. An Independent claim is also included for a frost-protection system for carrying out the above process comprising at least one temperature sensor, a ventilation valve, a liquid drain valve, and a monitoring/control unit. Preferred Features: Liquid remaining in the liquid cycle or pipes is displaced from the cycle or pipes using a fluid, especially compressed air.
