Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1127847A1] The invention relates to a method for the microbiological decomposition of harmful substances in contaminated fluids. An immobilised group of micro-organisms (biocoenosis) is used for the microbiological decomposition. The latter is exposed alternately to submerged and non-submerged conditions in a device for the microbiological decomposition of harmful substances in fluids. The invention also relates to a device for the microbiological decomposition of harmful substances in fluids, comprising at least two holding compartments (1, 2) for the fluid, immobilised micro-organisms being present in at least one holding compartment (1, 2). The inventive device is characterised in that at least two holding compartments (1, 2) can be fluidly interconnected by a connecting tube (3) and in that devices (4) with which the fluid can be alternately transferred from one holding compartment (1) to the other are provided, the micro-organisms being alternately subjected to submerged and non-submerged conditions in the at least one holding compartment (1, 2).
