[origin: EP1258350A2] Process for imaging in printing machines with a plate cylinder or printing plate or sleeve on plate cylinder as image carrier comprises applying an ablatable coating to the carrier and ablation by a thermal imager to produce the motif dots by local limited burning under excess oxygen. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Printing machine with the image carrier provided with a thermally ablatable coating and associated thermal imager, in which the coating contains oxygen donor in homogeneous, microscopically fine distribution; (2) Printing machine with the image carrier provided with an ablatable coating and associated thermal imager, in which the imager is an oxygen probe for dot-accurate supply of oxygen at the actual action points.
