First brake components (9a, 9b) rotate with the engine components. Associated braking components (12a, 12'a) are controlled to move between braking and released positions, to brake rotary parts of the engine. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding braking method.

Le dispositif de freinage et d'arrêt comporte au moins un premier élément de frein qui peut être constitué par un disque de frein (9a, 9b) calé sur l'un au moins du vilebrequin (2) et de l'arbre de transmission (4) et au moins un second élément de frein qui peut être un étrier de freinage (11a, 11b) du disque (9a, 9b) comportant au moins un patin de freinage (12a, 12'a) par frottement sur une partie du disque de frein (9a, 9b) et un moyen de commande électronique (10) du déplacement du patin (12a, 12'a) entre une position inactive et une position de freinage. <IMAGE>
