Abstract (en)
Apparatus (10) and method for detecting a data cartridge (15) in a cartridge engaging assembly (30) are provided with a signal emitter (45) which may be positioned adjacent the cartridge engaging assembly to emit a signal (50). A signal detector (40) mounted to the cartridge engaging assembly may detect the signal. The signal detector generates output to indicate whether the data cartridge is present in the cartridge engaging assembly based on the detected signal.
