[origin: WO0243208A1] The invention relates to an encapsulated surge voltage protector with at least one spark gap, especially for limiting mains follow currents in low-voltage networks with direct or alternating currents, comprising an essentially rotation-symmetrical arcing chamber with symmetrically or coaxially located electrodes. A series connection which is made up of a high-resistance isolating distance and a section consisting of high-resistance but electroconductive or semiconductive material is configured between the electrodes. Means for generating a magnetic field which force any arc that is produced as a result of flashover into rotation extend vertically in relation to the longitudinal axis of the electrodes. The use of these magnetic field generation means, also in combination, enables deionization plates between the electrodes to be provided for distributing an arc resulting from flashover.
