[origin: EP1260294A1] The method involves turning a workpiece with a cutting insert (21) on a tool head (19) such that the cutting insert has a tool reference plane which extends through identically selected cutting edge points and which is perpendicular to an assumed cutting direction in accordance with DIN 6581. The tool reference plane encloses an angle of 90 to 135 degrees with the rotary axis (D) of tool head. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a tool head assembly; (b) a lathe or machining apparatus.
