Abstract (en)
The present invention relates to a system which prevents coning while minimising the problems associated with any reverse coning which may result. The system includes a production string disposed within a wellbore having both oil production perforations and water production perforations. The produced water is separated into oil and water, whereafter the water is reinjected into a disposal zone. The separated oil is directed upward through the production string for recovery. Coning may be further prevented by monitoring the oil/water contact and by adjusting the rates at which the two zones are produced. <IMAGE>
