[origin: EP1260756A1] The invention relates to a method of identifying medical devices, specifically safety-type dispensing devices, and to an improved medical device implementing the method. The method consists of: providing the device (2) with an electronic memory unit (10); storing identification data of the medical device (2) into the memory unit (10); and reading the contents of the memory unit (10) and storing fresh data about a maintenance and service operation through a supply interface (15) of the memory unit (10) arranged to act on the memory unit strictly for the time required to complete said data reading and storing steps. <IMAGE>
