[origin: DE10009817A1] Catalyst contains (as metals) 0.0001-0.5 part weight rhenium, 0.0001-0.5 part weight platinum and 0-0.25 part weight other metal(s) selected from zinc, copper, silver, gold, nickel, iron, ruthenium, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten and vanadium per part weight activated charcoal; which is subjected to non-oxidative pretreatment. An Independent claim is also included for the production of alcohols (I) by catalytic hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds (II) using this catalyst.
