Abstract (en)
The abrasive material consists of a self-hardening backing layer (1) of variable viscosity, and abrasive grains. The abrasive material consists of a self-hardening backing layer (1) of variable viscosity, and abrasive grains. Each grain has an abrasive core (20) coated with a metal or metallic alloy (21) which has a strong susceptibility to magnetic attraction. The grains collect in zones (Z1) where relatively strong grains are concentrated, separated by zones (Z0) of concentration of relatively weak grains. The material is made in a mould with a sheet of rubber in its base, in which magnets or magnetic particles are embedded. The abrasive grains, e.g. of natural or synthetic diamond in a metal coating, are then scattered over the base and a self-setting material such as a polymerizable resin is poured over them, and can be covered by a weight to promote penetration of the grains.
