[origin: EP1262316A1] Recesses (V) forming part of a relief pattern are burnt away in a type form preform (1) by irradiation of preform material along paths (6). Flat areas left between the recesses are also irradiated so that deeper flat areas (P2) are created at various depths. An Independent claim is made for the process equipment which has a laser for irradiating a surface (2) of the preform and a laser control unit. Data files deliver commands to the control unit for switching the beam on and off as the laser moves along a path and enables the deeper flat areas to be created.
