[origin: EP1262442A2] The cable motion ascertaining apparatus includes a sensor (7) for detecting the markings of a cable drum (1) as the markings move relative to the sensor body during cable drum rotation. The markings are provided along the ridge (4) which is in parallel relationship to the groove (2) of the cable drum.
