[origin: DE10011741A1] Biologically marking animals or animal products to determine the place of origin comprising orally supplying a living animal with a defined immunogen that is innocuous to humans and the environment, and which produces changes that are detectable by specific recognition procedures, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) biologically marking animals or animal products comprising orally supplying a living animal with a defined immunogen which is innocuous to humans and the environment, where the immunogen does not occur in the food chain or environment at the place where the animal is living; and (2) the use of an immunogen to carry out the above methods.
