Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0170440A1] The invention relates to a method for fracture-splitting a connecting rod (1) of a piston engine into two bearing shells representing one half each of the bearing eye (2). The inventive method comprises the following steps: putting the machine component, before splitting, with its bearing eye onto a mandrel (10) divided into two equal parts; pretensioning the bearing eye in the splitting direction, by expanding the two mandrel halves (11, 12); fixing the position of the bearing eye (2) on the one side of the predetermined parting plane (4) by means of adjustable stops (29) with respect to the allocated mandrel half (11); driving in a wedge (16) between the two mandrel halves (11, 12), thereby splitting the bearing half whose position has been fixed and the associated mandrel half (11) from the bearing half fixed on the other mandrel half (12) by substantially fracturing simultaneously both sides.
