[origin: WO0175818A1] The invention relates to a method for authenticating. A mobile radiotelephone appliance is used as the authentication terminal having stored authentication characteristics. Said appliance is provided with means for inputting authentication characteristics and a short-range transmitter receiver module. An external terminal sends an authentication inquiry that is received by the short-range transmitter receiver module. Authentication is carried out internally using the means and the authentication characteristics. The result of the examination is transmitted via the transmitter receiver module.
