[origin: EP1270784A1] A textile compound needle (1) has a slide (8) with two diverging springs forming an inlet funnel (28). The needle has a slit (4) which is initially relatively narrow at its inlet zone (15), forming a guide (4a). The slide slot widens at a running sector (4b). The slide (8) spring (11,12) camber moves unimpeded in the running sector (4b), and moves through the guide section (4a) without mechanical play. The compound needle (1) operates with precision in the presence of pulling forces on the side (8), and requires minimal opening of the funnel (28). The slit (4) inlet has a guide surface for the springs. During the slide (8) return-action, the slide relocates in the slit (4).
