[origin: DE10012765A1] Control de-couples rotary motion of the preform (6) from translation, for an interval. Translation (5) is controlled such that designated areas required to be hotter or cooler, face the heater (14) for longer or shorter intervals. Preferred features: Preforms are moved cyclically past the heater. At least two preforms are simultaneously moved in this way. Rotation of the preform is carried out during an interruption of translation. It is at least partially superimposed on translation. Rotation occurs in steps. It is carried out continuously, at least over sections. At least at intervals, it is carried out with variable circumferential speed. Direction of rotation changes. The preforms are heated from a given direction, and/or in two opposite directions. The preforms are carried by a support unit past the heating unit. The heating unit includes radiants and extends along the path of translation, occupying both sides of the path at intervals. Carriers and guides provide rotary positioning. A rotation drive (10) is toothed; has a recirculating (e.g. timing belt) drive. One or more turntables (4) are included.
