[origin: WO0179886A1] The invention concerns the use of a solid state detector comprising at least a YAP(Ce) crystal for measuring alpha , beta , and X-radiation, said radiation comprising at least a very low energy component, in particular beta rays whereof the energy is less than 200 keV, for example rays emitted by <14>C and/or Tritium (<3>H), and/or X rays whereof the energy is less than 6 keV. The invention also concerns a solid state scintillation detector comprising at least a YAP(Ce) crystal and means for bringing very low energy radiation in contact with at least a YAP(Ce) crystal so as to enable detection of very low energy radiation. The invention further concerns a method for detecting said radiation.
