[origin: WO0137222A1] A hierarchical parametric model is provided for modelling the appearance of objects, such as human faces. The hierarchical model can model both the shape and the texture of the object. The hierarchical model includes models for components of the object being modelled such that output parameters from one model are applied as input parameters to models which are lower in the hierarchy. This hierarchical model can be used, for example, for face tracking, for video compression, for 2D and 3D character generation, for face recognition for security purposes, for image editing etc.
